People have left questions in the comments so in this post I will answer these questions. Before I start, I would like to thank all who read and leave comments and for following Swimming Tips & Tricks.

  • Do you recommend 5 as an age for parents to start training?

I started swimming lessons at the age of 5, I started training competitively at the age of 8. It is important to remember that each child is unique and has different abilities/skills, some children start lessons at age 4, others when they are 8, parents will have a better understanding of when their child is ready to start swimming lessons and if they wish to step up to competitive training. Although, there are some cases when a child fears the water, it is vital that you do not force the child to swim as this can increase the fear of water.

Trick: I recommend that before starting swim lessons go to the shallow end of the pool, spend time with the child even just walking in the water then slowly get them to build their confidence to put their face under water.

  • What is my favorite type of water to swim in, is it open water lakes, ocean or pool?

To be completely honest I don’t have a favorite type of water to swim in. I enjoy swimming in all of them. In the likes of Open Water (ocean, sea, lakes, rivers) when I am swimming, I feel a sense of freedom, there is nobody there “I am one with the water” and I am away from all the stresses of the world. For the pool, it is where I learned how to swim, and I have many fond memories swimming in training and competitions. Like open water I feel a sense of freedom.

  • What is your favorite type of swimming and is it pool or open water?

Like in the previous answer I do not have a favorite type of swimming. I enjoy swimming in pool, open water and ice swimming. I have already mentioned my reasons for why I love to swim in the pool and open water, as for ice swimming I love a challenge. The cold water making it physically and mentally challenging, to overcome the water temperature and swim, for me was a great achievement. I am the type of person who likes to challenge themselves, to better themselves and push past my limits, for me there is no greater feeling. Swimming is my passion and I love to push myself in all three (pool, open water and ice swimming).
